And it gets better.

This week was hell. I tried to ask the principals if I could give out apples for an event in the cafeteria and they acted as if I wanted to hand out bows and arrows. Apparently, apples can be used as weapons. Now, I understand that my kids can be a bit immature at times, but c'mon! THEY'RE APPLES! So that happened.

On Wednesday night, Jon and I got home to find a letter from our landlord with details on how there was a "bed bug incident" in the building next to us and they were going to have to do an inspection Friday, between the hours of 9-5. So freaking inconvenient. Especially, because we had to find a place for Rupert (our monster of a cat- I'll post a picture sometime).
Thursday morning I called my landlord to inquire about what to do. The woman that claimed she could help me acted as if I was asking her how to watch tv. She was rude, sarcastic, and unpleasant. Bitch, if you hate your job, GET ANOTHER ONE. Christ on a cracker. That night Jon and I were frantically putting our clothes in plastic bags, moving the furniture 12 inches from the walls and snapping at each other because we hate everyone. So now, it is approximately 5:20 PM and no one has shown up to take care of this issue. I am about to lose it. What is the problem?! THEY HAD ALL DAY!

It gets better.

Last night my eye hurt a bit. I ignored it and went to sleep. This morning I woke up with my eye still in pain and it was partly shut. You guessed it. I have pink eye. But I still went to work. Like a champ. I put in some drops from the last time I had pink eye (gotta love working in schools) and hustled to the office.

I'm still upset. All of our clothes are in plastic bags, it looks like we just moved in, and I'm pretty sure they're not coming today. FINE. I will not lose my cool.

The one thing that did brighten my spirits was seeing Jamal AKA the candy man on the train. I love that guy! Always has good stuff. He claims he sells candy to stay out of trouble. Whatever works for him. I'm just always happy to see him and hear his spiel.

What would you have done?

This afternoon Natalie and I were on the train platform waiting for the #2 to pull up. Downtown trains were running on the express lane, therefore no one was waiting on the other side. Suddenly, a man from our side of the platform jumped into the tracks. No one reacted. He climbed over the electrified rails and was in the middle rail when a train came rolling into view, about 50 feet away from him. He glanced at it and hobbled over the rail. As he got to the other side he climbed onto the platform and threw away a napkin. Then he walked over to the elevator and took it down. No one was alarmed. No one said anything. After a couple of seconds, it finally hit me what had happened and I freaked out to Natalie, who in turn freaked out back at me.

What. Just. Happened?!

I'm not sure what we were supposed to do. call 911? and say what? Hey dispatcher. There's a man who's crossing the tracks and there's a train barreling towards him. Oh wait, wait, WAIT...He made it safely across. Never mind. Carry on with more important calls.

What would you have done?

Little Lisa in the Big City

Seeing as this might be my last year in NYC, I've decided to document my last year here. It's been a crazy ride. I was only supposed to be here a year, and here I am going into year 3 of living in the city. NYC. A ridiculous place. I get pissed off every day. People push into me, cyclists bike on the sidewalk,  children shriek in the subway- the list is endless. But no matter how angry I get, I love this place. This is where I learned what I need to do with my life. This is where I fell in love. This is where I needed to be these past 2 years.

I've been working in school health the entire time I've been here and it's been an amazing experience. Aside from being threatened and being called a student by staff, I love being a part of the public school community. It's odd. I know. Public schools in NYC, especially the Bronx aren't that great. Despite their reputation, high schoolers can be very sweet (if you are on their good side).

The title of my blog is "que."I find that I am constantly questioning people's decisions (especially my student's decisions) or I say "que" to people who say asinine comments. Those of you who know me know that there is often a facial expression to go along with the "que."

I hope to post on here at least three times a week. For now I leave you with my first day of school experience.

The first day back is always tough. It all went downhill after the assisstant principal (who knows me well), patted me on the shoulder and told me to sit down. Sir, que?! He quickly apologized but not before a gaggle of 6th graders witnessed the scene. Excellent. A couple of hours later I bent over to pick up a box and split my pants. Thankfully, it was the inseam. However, the secretary heard and gave me a puzzled and sympathetic look. Wonderful. My day ended with my making my way to Soho for fashion night out (they give away free drinks)! My ankle gave out and I collapsed in the middle of the street. No one helped me. No one asked me if I was ok. I supposed the above events are what caused me to purchase $70 shoes. Those will be returned. Anyway, I think it was a fabulous first day back. Stay tuned for more stories. For now, be glad you're no longer in middle school. That time period sucked.

LOL (lots of love)
